"For centuries, civilizations have valued crystals for their beauty as precious and semiprecious gemstones as well as for the unique vibrational energies within each crystal that can help facilitate healing for the body, mind, and spirit. Societies throughout history, including ancient Mesopotamia, Egypt, China, and Greece, used crystals for their healing properties. This practice continued through the ages, although it lessened during the Renaissance, when people believed the healing properties of crystals came from either good angels or bad angels.

The use of crystals for healing reemerged about 40 years ago and continue to gain popularity as an energetic healing modality. In a modern age of science, however, it may be difficult to understand how a rock can bring about any type of healing. The answer lies in the vibrational energies found within crystals and how they affect the energy fields all around them, including the human energy field.

WHAT ARE CRYSTALS?

Crystals are natural elements that come from the Earth. A true crystal has an organized grouping of unit cells that forms a unique lattice pattern called a crystal system. There are six lattice patterns that appear within healing crystals. There is also a category of stones known as "amorphous" crystals, even though they are not truly crystals, since they do not have an interior crystalline structure. Some of these include amber, obsidian, opal, and tektites. They each have their own unique properties.

CRYSTALS AND COLOR

It's absolutely true that the color of a crystal can affect how attractive it is to you. But a color also plays a role in the energetic and healing impact of crystals. We'll discuss in more detail how color does this later, but there are a few basic things to know about crystals and their colors. The color of a crystal comes from three things:

  • How the crystal absorbs light

  • The specific minerals/chemicals the crystal contains

  • Any impurities within the crystal

The minerals and impurities impact which light wavelengths the crystal will absorb and the color that appears as a result. For example, if a crystal absorbs all of the light wavelengths, if appears black. If it doesn't absorb any light wavelengths, it appears clear. Different impurities and chemicals/minerals affect light differently. "
